Welcome to Our Classrooms!
Josie’s ECEAP has two classrooms offering a full day Preschool program.
Preschool Classes run Monday – Thursday.
Start Time: 8:00 am
End Time: 3:30 pm
We all know, preschool kiddos are busy! Each day, teachers have plenty of activities planned for your child that will help to develop their social/emotional skills and given them the confidence to interact with the world around them! Developing these skills will lay a strong foundation for children to build upon and become more successful in areas such as math, science, reading, comprehension and more.
Students enrolled in Josie’s ECEAP spend their class time in one of our two classrooms.
During their school day, children are given many opportunities to learn:
- How to make friends by sharing, taking turns, and solving problems
- How to be part of a group by following routines and directions
- What interests them and to be excited about learning
- Foundational academic concepts in the areas of reading, math and science
Staff track student progress and create weekly lesson plans to help all children reach the goal of kindergarten readiness.
Daily ECEAP Preschool Schedule
Each classroom follows a daily schedule so that children have a routine they can follow and rely on. Studies have shown that structure and routine decrease anxiety in children as they know what to expect and can therefore let their guards down and explore freely. Once staff get to know the children better, schedules may be adjusted to better suit the students and their needs.

Large Group
“Large group” consists of an activity that the whole class participates in together. Often times this includes a welcome song, daily question, a lesson related to that week’s topic and a story. Staff adjust the length and activities in the large group time depending on the interest and behaviors of the children in their class. For example, some could listen to story after story all day long, others may need to get up and do a full movement dance activity after a short while.
Small Group
During small group time, staff work with a few children at a time on that day’s activity. These activities may include working on fine motor skills such as handwriting, scissor skills, coloring and/or gluing. Classrooms will also be using the curriculum, “Handwriting Without Tears” throughout the year, and this may be a time that students would participate in that activity.
Free Choice
Each day, children are given plenty of time to freely explore the classroom and find activities that interest them. Areas that children may choose to play in can include Dramatic Play, Blocks, Science, Sensory, Table Games, Art, etc. All items in the classroom are chosen based on children’s interests, strengths, and areas that they may need more help in. Through play, children do their best work!
Circle Time
During Circle Time, children will learn important social/emotional lessons from the Second Step program. These lessons are taught in ways that children find engaging such as with puppets and stories. For more on Second Step and it’s curriculum, click here.
Mighty Minutes (MM)
Mighty Minutes for Preschool are part of The Creative Curriculum for Preschool and feature short activities that include songs, chants, rhymes, and games that can help staff turn every minute of the day into a learning opportunity. These activities can be used anywhere to teach language, literacy, math, science, social studies, and physical skills during “in-between” times, such as preparing to go outside or gathering children for large-group time.
Curriculum
Snohomish County ECEAP sites utilize multiple research-based curriculums throughout their programs. Each allows staff members to tailor lesson plans to best suit the needs of individual students or the group of students as a whole.
